People want to stand out from the crowd – original clothes, unusual gadgets, even a cat should be a special one. Breeders try to present as many breeds as possible with some features, cats with curled ears are especially popular. You will learn from our article about some of them.
List of cat breeds with curled ears:
- American Curl;
- Scottish Fold;
- Highland Fold;
- Peterbald;
- Ukrainian Levkoy;
- Oriental Cat;
- Munchkin;
- Poodlecat;
- Elf;
- Kinkalow;
- Dwelf.
Kittens of these breeds are in demand – everyone wants an unusual cat. But it is important to understand that these are cat breeds with bent ears, so the pet will require special attention. There may be some diseases, so before you decide to buy, you need to consider everything.
American Curl
Bred in the US. They are cats with their ears bent backwards, which gives their muzzle a slightly surprised look. They look very much like owls. Kittens are born with normal ears, but after a week they wrap up.
The twisted ears gene is unique, and there is no breed with similar traits (unless the Curl is involved in breeding, of course). The history of the American Curl began with one black cat found in the street.
Kitten price is about $1200.
Scottish Fold
An unusual cat with folded ears was born on a farm in 1961. She was given the name Susie and it was from her that Scottish fold cats originated.
History is not uneventful: trying to cross representatives of these breeds with each other, breeders received musculoskeletal mutations, deformities incompatible with life. Later in Great Britain they managed to preserve the fold ears without damaging the health of the kittens.
Price is about $1500.
Highland Fold
This American breed was bred quite recently. Its distinctive feature is a lynx face and bent ears (but not to the same degree as a curl). In spite of its wild appearance, Highlanders are affectionate and like to play, they are domestic. The average weight is 5-9 kg. Another name is Scottish long-haired. The price is within $1000.
Peterbald
It was domestic breeders who did their best. Hairless cats appeared by crossing Oriental cat and Don Sphynx.
Their distinctive feature is that they are born and immediately open their eyes. And it is harmless, their lacrimal duct doesn’t dry out, on the contrary, pets often suffer from profuse lacrimation. Their skin is always hot, so they can be kept in cool apartments.
Ukrainian Levkoy
Their ears resemble a lion flower, hence the name. Cats do not have a coat of hair, so you can’t have your pet in the sun for long periods of time. In the winter they should be dressed in wool sweaters.
Kittens are sociable and tend to establish contact with all family members. The price varies from $500 to $1500. It depends on the degree of fluffiness, twisted ears and so on.
Oriental Cat
The native land of the Oriental Cat is Thailand. Due to ignorance they were called “under-Siamese” fully colored and with green eyes. The way of Orientals to glory was not easy, the British Siamese Cat Club wanted to forbid the breeding of such cats. Oriental beauties require a lot of attention and accompany every movement with their “Meow!”
The lop-eared Munchkin
There is no such breed. There is little information about it and no official data. People refuse to register it because of serious deformities and increased mortality. Just a group of enthusiasts breed super-cute kittens. They have very short paws, which is similar to dachshunds.
Elf
An unusually rare breed that still remains unrecognized. This is a cat with bent ears, wide at the base, towards the end they taper and curl gently. The shape of the auricle is reminiscent of an elf’s.
Often there are representatives with different eye colors. The front paws are longer than the hind paws, and the belly hangs slightly. And yes, they can wag their tail.
Kinkalow
A dwarf breed with mouse ears, it resembles a dachshund because of its short paws.
The breed originated from a small kitten named Louie in 1997. Bred using outcrossing. The breed is experimental, it is unclear if there are any genetic diseases. Despite the small weight, the body is muscular and strong.
One of Louie’s parents was a Curl, so the babies inherit the feature of curling ears at day 10.
Poodlecat
Possess very long coats, and curly ones at the same time. There are cats with both drooping and straight ears. Both are involved in breeding. Prone to allergies and have problems with the ears. You must constantly wipe them with special products, in order to avoid inflammation.
Dwelf
There are a few dozen Dwelfs in the world, which is very few. They are similar to the Elves described above, only they have short legs (the Munchkin was involved in the breeding). Weigh very little – only 2 kg. Hair is absent. Bathing is necessary every two weeks.
Surround your pet with care and it will give you joy for 12 years at least. Obedient and playful Dwelf will be part of the family. They are very fond of children, always stay in the center of events.
